The building successfully integrates existing facilities into a cohesive new centre, with its main entrance positioned along the perimeter road adjacent to the rugby, AFL, and rowing facilities. The sloping site seamlessly connects the lower arrival level from the road to the existing upper-level beach volleyball courts and pool concourse, framed by pine trees to the north.
At its heart is a generous central reception and circulation space that addresses the street frontage and offers commanding views over the rowing lake. This dramatic volume connects all four levels of the building and overlooks a protected central courtyard. The facility includes pool change areas, an 800sqm gymnasium, flexible training and sports science spaces, a spectacular function venue overlooking both the pool and gymnasium, and administration offices.
Externally, the building features an honest materials palette of exposed concrete, cost-effective coloured tilt panels, exposed steel roof framing, signature sandstone cladding, clear anodised glazed framing, and complementary timber detailing on balustrades.
Combining the campus’s trademark sandstone with dynamic sporting graphics beneath a soaring, elegant roof, the expressive building delivers a powerful architectural statement for Bond University while efficiently integrating new and existing facilities on the challenging sloping site.
The use of concrete, glass, and signature sandstone cladding has ensured a durable, low-maintenance outcome.
Beyond its dramatic street presence and beautifully lit circulation spaces, the building represents an efficient and creative resolution of complex design and construction challenges, resulting in a sustainable and iconic addition to the Bond University campus.
