Designed as a family sanctuary, the home unfolds across generous volumes that prioritise light, air, and connection to the subtropical environment. Clean lines and a restrained material palette of white rendered masonry, warm timber detailing, and textured natural stone create a timeless contemporary aesthetic that feels both sculptural and inviting. Extensive glazing and oversized sliding doors dissolve the boundaries between interior and exterior, allowing living spaces to spill seamlessly onto the poolside terrace and garden. The open-plan kitchen, dining, and living areas form the heart of the home, framed by a dramatic stone feature wall and bathed in northern light. Upstairs, private quarters maintain the same sense of calm, with carefully composed views across rooftops to the distant coastline. The building's form is composed of stacked, crisp white concrete bands that articulate the floor plates, grounded by an extensive timber-clad envelope that lends both warmth and texture to the streetscape. Central to the design is the use of operable and fixed vertical timber screens. This rhythmic element wraps the upper volumes, providing a dynamic facade that morphs to balance the desire for open, luminous interiors with the necessity of coastal privacy. The seamlessly integrated timber batten garage and entry gate create a cohesive, monolithic presence at street level, which slowly unravels upon entry. The layout is deliberately oriented around a private, sun-drenched courtyard and lawn, allowing the main living zones to open entirely to the elements. Large sliding glass tracks dissolve the boundaries between the interior flooring and the outdoor terrace, fostering an atmospheric sense of space. The twenty-one storey residential building provides a contemporary facade that reflects its city location, creating a strong architectural landmark along Railway Terrace and Milton Road. This project offers high-quality residential apartments with a mix of eight units per floor on the lower levels and six units per floor on the upper levels. It also features unique podium-level apartments that sleeve the podium-level car parking and activate the street frontage. The Ground Floor houses the main building lobby and a small retail tenancy, both of which have direct links to Railway Terrace. Communal recreation comes in the form of a rooftop level with a pool and several separate areas for residents to utilise. All apartments feature large balconies that act as outdoor rooms, encouraging indoor/outdoor interaction. Composed as a series of interconnected forms, the two-storey dwelling is defined by two upper-level pavilions that sit lightly above a grounded masonry base, creating a layered composition of scale, shadow and enclosure. The architecture draws from the coastal vernacular that once defined the Palm Beach foreshore. Retaining the existing entry courtyard and preserving significant mature trees, the design establishes continuity with the site’s history while offering a contemporary interpretation of the traditional beach shack. Fibre cement cladding with expressed cover battens, custom brickwork, exposed timber rafters and finely detailed timber screening create a rich yet restrained material palette, while subtle pastel tones reference the character of historic coastal dwellings.
